Concerned Citizen

As I observed, its getting hotter nowadays, especially this coming month of April. I mean its holy week already but my concerned is the El Nino, many of our farmers are affected by the phenomenon. Farms are dried up and their agricultural products turn brown before they could harvest it. Not just that meat was easily spoil in the intense heat if not refrigerated. We are all affected this global warming, this unusual heat reminds us of our mother earth is getting hotter. I know some areas here in Cebu the water levels are dropping because of this intense heat. In metro manila in the news some areas are now experiencing lack of water supply. I hope the government look this problem and provide help for those farmers mostly affected by the El Nino.

Look fresh on summertime.

Make your home look cool and fresh everywhere during summertime. Instead of complaining about the tolerance summer heat, try to do something about it. For instance, while you may not remodel your house without too much expense you can look and feel cooler. Here some ways to beat the heat.

- Be an early bird. Do what you have to do in the early morning when the day is cool. If you have to make short trip, start as early as possible. Take an umbrella with you to protect you from the heat of the sun. Go to market as early as possible 6am and cook all the foods for the day at one time.
- Keep the inside of your house dark to make it cooler. The best way to regulate light through windows is to use either Venetian blind with horizontal slats. Before the hot sunlight streams into your house lower some blind to cover the upper portion of the window only to allow sunlight to come in. any lighting system gives off heat, incandescent lamps most especially.
- Wear cool clothes. Avoid dress made by synthetic fabrics that are not porous are shiny or cling to the body. Wear cotton clothes dress without sleeves or short loose sleeves, scooped necks or with out collars that hug the neck. Starch cotton dresses lightly to make them crisp.
- Long hair not only looks hot but also actually makes you feel hot when it covers the nape of your neck. If you do not want your long hair cut short, put it up or gather it with a clip away from the neck.
- If only one bath per person is possible because of water shortage, take this bath in the afternoon or in the evening, just before supper or before going to bed, when the temperature is lower. During the day, give the children and yourself sponge bath to make you feel clean and cool.

Be responsible…

Today I stumbled huge garbage left behind by people who don’t care about the environment. It’s sad to say that one of the growing problems is improper waste disposal. I know our barangay designate some information about proper disposing of garbage. Seminar on proper garbage disposing is offered to barangay officials and health workers. But their some people are hardheaded cannot follow the simple disposing of their garbage they will only leave behind with their neighbor’s backyard. Laws and ordinance prohibiting improper disposal of waste in rivers, stems, canals and especially vacant lots are implemented. Improper waste disposal may cause foul odor, diseases, and air pollution of air, soil and water. It’s also providing the breeding grounds for flies, mosquitoes, and other insects. It also invites rats and other diseases causing organism. If we want to save our environment from the problems affecting it, every member of the community should show that each of us has a responsibility of taking care of our environment.

Last December, the company was I work suddenly end up our services, but they help us transferred to another company. The company were we transferred, is the sister company of my previous employer. It’s a Japanese firm their products are engaged of making cargo ships. I started working last January 4 and until now we don’t have a day off Monday to Sunday we work. Its advantage to us to have this kind of work time frame, on salary day we get higher salary than our basic because of the overtime we worked. It’s sad to say that I’m bored because I don’t have time anymore with my family, my faith and even myself. For me faith is very much important, we cannot attend mass anymore with my family because our employer taken the time we should at the church. If this work still the same for couples of month I should gave up and resign find another job that gave time with my family and my faith. I know ” God is Good” he always provides those are in needs.
